Ally Bank Testing Out New “Buyer’s Choice” Loan Program

Ally Bank is rolling out it’s new Buyer’s Choice loan program in five of the most populous states in the United States. The program is actually a pretty ingenious idea: the plan is that in four years, customers who have a buyer’s choice loan will be able to sell the vehicle back to the bank [...]

Dodge Caravan, Avenger to be Discontinued

In an effort to save money and cut down on similar vehicles from different brands being sold at the dealerships. Auto transport companies that ship from dealerships have noticed a decrease in certain vehicles that are sold alongside their counterparts, so this may be a good thing for the embattled automotive manufacturer. The Dodge Caravan [...]

New York Drugstore First to add Electric Trucks to Fleet

In a really cool development, New York drugstore Duane Reade is adding an unknown number of electric trucks to its fleet, a move that has auto transport drivers excited at the possibilities. The company has always been known for being eco-friendly, but this move comes as a surprise to a lot of people. The trucks [...]

Credit Unions Stable Source of Funding for Dealers

According to Used Car News, credit unions have been helping dealers with their financing, which is huge news in a country seized by a three-year-long recession. While credit unions are no where near the size of major banks that handle most financing options, the fact that they are willing to take the risk is helping [...]

Ally Bank Testing Out New “Buyer’s Choice” Loan Program

Ally Bank is rolling out it’s new Buyer’s Choice loan program in five of the most populous states in the United States. The program is actually a pretty ingenious idea: the plan is that in four years, customers who have a buyer’s choice loan will be able to sell the vehicle back to the bank for at least the rest of whatever the customer owes on the car. While this may not be auto transport related, the fact that customers are able to sell their vehicles back to the bank and get a loan off their chest is a great incentive to get new customers. This is a brilliant idea. I for one hope that this works, because i would love to be able to do something like this with my car loan.

In an effort to save money and cut down on similar vehicles from different brands being sold at the dealerships. Auto transport companies that ship from dealerships have noticed a decrease in certain vehicles that are sold alongside their counterparts, so this may be a good thing for the embattled automotive manufacturer. The Dodge Caravan and the Dodge Avenger will both be discontinued, with a new mid-size crossover coming in early 2013.

In a really cool development, New York drugstore Duane Reade is adding an unknown number of electric trucks to its fleet, a move that has auto transport drivers excited at the possibilities. The company has always been known for being eco-friendly, but this move comes as a surprise to a lot of people. The trucks run on a Smith Electric Newton engine and is capable of driving 100 miles after an overnight charge with a carrying capacity of 16,000 lbs. While this isn’t nearly enough towing capacity for auto transporters, it’s a good first step, and with the rate that technology changes, we could be seeing electric-powered auto transporters sooner than we think.

Credit Unions Stable Source of Funding for Dealers

According to Used Car News, credit unions have been helping dealers with their financing, which is huge news in a country seized by a three-year-long recession. While credit unions are no where near the size of major banks that handle most financing options, the fact that they are willing to take the risk is helping dealers avoid some of the more major problems associated with banks. The nation’s credit unions have seen an increase in profits by $658 million over the past year, largely in part to dealers and financing options. Auto transport companies have noticed a rise in the number of new cars being shipped, and this could very well be the reason.

GM Announces New Cadillac Electric Vehicle

Word on the street says that General Motors is looking to build a brand new Cadillac luxury electric vehicle, slated to hit sales floors in 2013 as a 2014 model. GM has had trouble getting their Cadillac brand to sell in this economy, and I’m wondering if this is a good move for the company. Regardless, the new Cadillac ELR, as it is being coined (though I hope they change it, it reminds this blogger of “Mr. Blue Sky” and not a car I’d want to drive), will be based off the insanely popular Chevy Volt – auto shippers have noticed a lot of new Volts disappearing off the lots and onto the back of their trucks, so it’s no surprise that Chevy picked the Volt as its production base for the new Cadillac.

White House Relaxing on Fuel Efficiency Standards

Automakers are smiling now that the Obama administration has relaxed a bit on fuel efficiency standards. According to The Wall Street Journal, pickup trucks and SUVs will no longer have to abide by the 5% increase of fuel economy per year that passenger vehicles must abide by. However, they have yet to come to an agreement on the proposed 56 mpg requirement by 2025. Auto transport companies and car transport companies are somewhat hoping that the deal will benefit the auto industry more than lawmakers want, as diesel is still expensive and overhead for transport services and car transport is high. Ultimately, the fate of the bill lies in the compromise that automakers and lawmakers will achieve.
